The market of Japan is very promising for the export of Ukrainian agricultural products as evidenced by the results of participation of domestic producers in the international exhibition Foodex Japan 2019.

"The Export Strategy of Ukraine and the sectoral export strategy for food and processing industry define Japan as one of the key markets. It is the world’s third largest economy and the Japanese are solvent purchasers. Therefore, this market is extremely interesting and promising for our agricultural exports," Acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Olha Trofimtseva said during the round table meeting "Discovering Japan: Action Plan for 2019-2020", the Ministry’s press service reports.

She also noted that in recent years there had been a steady increase in the export of agricultural products to Japan. In 2018, it grew by almost 32% compared with 2017 and totaled over $112 million.

The acting minister emphasized that processed products and ready to eat niche food products have the biggest potential for exports to Japan.

"It is worth noting that in a month after the exhibition, our manufacturers have already yielded positive results: the products of two manufacturers have got an inspection of the Japanese partners, 11 of 13 companies have reached cooperation agreements, 17 representatives are most likely to sign contracts," Trofimtseva emphasized.
