Corn exports from Ukraine remain at a record pace
Corn exports from Ukraine continued accelerating in March 2018/19, when 3.8 MMT was shipped abroad. This was the largest monthly volume since December 2013/14 (4.0 MMT) and an all-time high for March, reports UkrAgroConsult.
Ukrainian corn exports in September-March 2018/19 totaled 18.9 MMT, or already 6% more than in the whole of MY 2017/18. Moreover, this is a historical record for this time period.
Ukraine continues increasing corn shipments to the European Union, which absorbs 60.4% of the country’s exports of the commodity. The EU imported 11.4 MMT of corn in September-March 2018/19, or already 40.7% more than in the whole of MY 2017/18. In fact, more than half that volume was represented by supplies from Ukraine.
In addition, in September-March 2018/19, Ukrainian exporters boosted corn shipments to China and Turkey against the same time last season (by 58% and 24%, respectively).
At the same time, the period under review saw a slowdown in corn purchases by Egypt and reduced shipments to Israel (-25%) and Tunisia (-21%).
