Russian farmers have finished planting of spring crops. According to the latest available data as of June 20, they planted the following areas to spring grains:
- wheat – 11.95 Ml ha (98.2% complete), or up 3.5% year-on-year;
- barley – 7.97 Ml ha (101.8%), or up 3.5% year-on-year;
- corn – 2.63 Ml ha (101.3%), or up 1.9% year-on-year.
UkrAgroConsult’s May forecast for wheat acreage and production in Russia remains valid. With regard to barley, the forecast for its planted area underwent no change either, but its yield was reduced because of adverse weather conditions in key growing regions of spring barley.
UkrAgroConsult has cut its estimate for corn production because of smaller planted acreage than predicted.
Noteworthy is that, similar to last year, corn is still exposed to the risk of dry weather, which is already locally observed in southern Russia. At the same time, precipitation is expected in partially troubled regions of corn and spring barley growing this week, which may somewhat improve crop condition.
UkrAgroConsult has cut its estimates for Russia’s 2019/20 grain crop and exports compared to the previous estimates.
