Ukraine harvests almost 34 mln tonnes of grain – Agrarian Policy Ministry
Ukrainian farmers harvested about 34 million tonnes of grain crops from an area of 8.9 million hectares, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine has reported.
"As of August 2, Ukrainian farmers harvested 33.8 million tonnes of grain crops of the new harvest from an area of 8.9 million hectares, or 89% of the target," the report says.
In particular, Ukrainian farmers harvested 24.9 million tonnes of wheat from an area of 6.1 million hectares (90%); 8.0 million tonnes of barley from 2.4 million hectares (91%); 590,000 tonnes of peas from 258,000 hectares (98%); 196,000 tonnes of rye from 72,000 hectares (62%); and 172,000 tonnes of oats from 67,000 hectares (37%).
Also, 3.0 million tonnes of winter rape were gathered from an area of 1.2 million hectares (98%), with a yield of 24.5 centners per hectare.
As reported, as of July 31, 2019, farmers in all regions harvested about 32 million tonnes of grain crops from an area of 8.4 million hectares, or 84% of the target.
Ukraine exported over 3.7 million tonnes of grain crops in the 2019/2020 marketing year which started on July 1.
