Russia. Winter grains are mostly in good condition

Weather conditions. The Central and Volga federal districts were exposed to warm weather. The average daily air temperature was at least 3-5°C above normal. The average soil temperature at a 10-cm depth was 15…20°C in the central black-earth and Middle Volga regions and 10…14°C in more northern areas.

In Western and Eastern Siberia, the average daily air temperature was 8-12°C above normal, while the maximum temperature reached 25…30°C.

Moisture supply. Crops are mostly well provided with moisture. In the southern half of the Central and Volga federal districts, topsoil moisture supply in single areas lowered to fair levels.

Soil drying and warmup in Western Siberia accelerated. In its southern areas, topsoil in fields with light soils has reached highly plastic condition that allowed farmers to begin its tilling and planting of early cold-hardy grains.

Crop condition. Winter grains in the Central district are mostly in good condition, being largely fair in the Volga district, locally poor due to scarcely favorable weather in the autumn and winter period and intense frost events early in the growing season.

Winter grains in Western Siberia resumed growth, mostly on dates close to the long-term average. Conditions for planting early cold-hardy grains in Eastern Siberia have improved, reports UkrAgroConsult.
