Ukraine’s agricultural exports to EU countries grew by over 24% in Q1 2019

Ukraine’s exports of agricultural products to the EU countries grew by 24.4% in the first quarter of 2019, according to Acting Agrarian Policy and Food Minister of Ukraine Olha Trofimtseva.

“In the first quarter of 2019, Ukraine’s exports of agricultural products to the EU countries grew by 24.4% compared with 2018, and total $1.88 billion,” she wrote on Facebook.

She noted that imports of agricultural products from the EU countries amounted to $734.6 million, which is 9.9% more compared to the corresponding period in 2018.

According to the deputy minister, the top five countries importing Ukrainian agricultural products in January-March 2019 were Netherlands ($379 million), Spain ($342 million), Italy ($215 million), Poland ($178 million), and Germany ($157 million).

Among the top five EU countries exporting to Ukraine were Poland ($150 million), Germany ($120 million), France ($85 million), Italy ($67 million) and Hungary ($49 million).

The key agricultural products exported to the EU from Ukraine over the reporting period were grains (50%), vegetable oils (17.8%), food industry residues and waste (8.5%).

Among the key agricultural products imported by Ukraine from the EU countries were corn (9.6%), food products (9%), oilseed crops (6.2%), tobacco and tobacco goods (6.1%), animal feed (5.4%).
