Sunflower seed price dynamics in Ukraine in 2024
Ukraine is one of the largest suppliers of sunflower seed in the world market. Oil-bearing hybrids, which have a high oil content, are in special demand abroad.
Sunflower purchase prices on the Ukrainian agricultural market change daily. In order to be able to profitably sell grain, it is necessary to navigate the market situation, take into account the yield potential and further forecast of the value of the crop.
Sunflower seed prices are influenced by a number of factors: the volume of production of oilseed hybrids, the quality of seeds, competing offers, global demand for other crops (rapeseed, soybeans), the cost of export contracts for vegoils and meal, and much more.
Purchase prices at elevators or factories in Ukraine are indicated for grain that meets the main quality criteria. Universal indicators of sunflower are as follows:
- humidity – 7%;
- weed impurity – 1%;
- oil impurity – 3%.
Seeds contaminated with insects or microorganisms are not accepted for sale. In the case of high humidity or weediness, the price per ton is recalculated down.
How much does sun seed cost in Ukraine in 2024?
Ukraine occupies one of the leading positions among countries growing oilseed sunflower hybrids. In recent years, the pace of production and export of products to foreign markets has grown rapidly.
The purchase price depends on several factors:
- the value of the gross collection in Ukraine;
- harvest in other countries;
- prices for other oilseeds – rapeseed, soybeans;
- the cost of oilseed products – vegoil, meal;
- prices for other vegetable oils, such as rapeseed;
- the quality of the harvest.
The demand for oilseed sunflower hybrids is directly related to the gross harvest, competition and the interests of traders who offer to buy grain. The cost is also affected by the time interval between the collection of sunflower and its direct appearance on the market. In order to sell goods at the most favorable price, farmers need to track changes in the global market, which helps to determine the best options for selling products.
How sunflower seeds are sold
Selling the grain harvest on the domestic or foreign market, producers face a number of difficulties. It is especially hard to sell sunseed to other countries: it is necessary to thoroughly understand the rules of world trade, take into account changes in VAT and make sure that the grain quality meets international standards.
Due to the high costs of transportation and other operations, it is not recommended to export oilseed hybrids from Ukraine in small batches. To get a good profit, it is desirable to sell them in large bulk.
The sale of sunflower seeds includes the following steps:
- The volume and quality assessment of the oilseed hybrids
- Buyer search. It is necessary to take into account all the nuances of the negotiations, draw up a contract correctly in order to avoid possible troubles and losses.
- Sale time. Throughout the year, the cost of sunflower seeds is the highest from January to June, when grain stocks in the agricultural market decrease. The decrease in the price of crops occurs in September after the cultivation of a new crop.
It is difficult to sell sunflower seeds in bulk abroad with a good profit on your own. Knowledge of the intricacies of trading in the foreign market and the ability to properly negotiate with foreign counterparties are required. To conclude safe and profitable transactions, it is better to contact a reliable intermediary. This will minimize the risks and increase the chances of a profitable sale of goods for export.
