Belarus. One-tenth of winter crops lost
The soil almost all over the country has fully thawed. Minor freezing of the top layer occurred in some areas due to night temperature drops. In most of Belarus, the top 10-cm soil layer is still very wet, even excessively wet in some fields on heavy soils.
Fieldwork in such areas can only be conducted selectively. The top 10-cm soil layer has dried to moderately wet condition in Gomel region, in most of Brest region and locally in southern parts of Minsk region. In the south of the country, the average soil temperature at the 10-cm depth is mostly +4 +6°С. Tillage, fertilization and other crop-care operations are underway in dried fields of winter crops. Farmers have started planting early spring crops, reports UkrAgroConsult.
One-tenth of winter crops in Belarus have been lost. The heaviest losses were suffered in Vitebsk region.
