Egypt’s wheat procurement season will begin next week and is expected to get off to a slow start, the supply minister said on Sunday.
Wheat procurement will start slowly becaiuse of weather conditions, Supply Minister Ali Moselhy said in a statement, adding that he predicts that the amounts of wheat procured will increase at the end of April and next month.
Egypt, the world’s largest wheat buyer, aims to procure 3.6 million tonnes of wheat from local farmers during the season. The country has strategic wheat reserves sufficient for more than four months, Moselhy said.
