Indonesia imported a record volume of wheat from Ukraine

Ukrainian wheat exports continue falling. Ukraine exported 12.4 MMT of wheat in July-February 2018/19, or 5.7% less than in the same period last season and the lowest volume since MY 2015/16, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Asia is a key destination for Ukrainian wheat exports. So, Indonesia has been the biggest importer of Ukrainian wheat for a second straight season. In the first eight months of this season, the country boosted purchases to 2.1 MMT that is already comparable with total imports in MY 2017/18 (2.3 MMT).

The second biggest market for Ukrainian wheat is Philippines, which has increased purchases by 42% compared to the whole of MY 2017/18.

At the same time, South Korea, which actively imported wheat from Ukraine in July-October 2018/19, substantially decreased its purchases by February.

African countries are also major consumers of Ukrainian wheat. Egypt became one of the top three importers of Ukrainian wheat in July-February 2018/19, though supplies to this country fell by 20%.

The European Union, which was the second largest importer of Ukrainian wheat in MY 2017/18, slashed purchases by 46% this season.
