Lower Romania wheat crop will ease competition on Egyptian and some Asian markets
Rain deficit negatively impacted winter crops at the critical stage of flowering and early grain filling in Romania. After a dry April rain became more abundant in May and the first half of June, but this primarily benefits only summer crops.
UkrAgroConsult continues to revise downwards the yield and production estimates for wheat in Romania.
During the harvesting campaign, which should begin in the second half of June, Romanian farmers may obtain the lowest crop since 2015.
In 2020/21 wheat exports is expected to decrease about 15% compared to the previous season and become 10% below the 5-year average for the country.
Lower wheat crop in Romania will ease the competition on the markets of Egypt and on some Asian markets, where Romania was quite successful this season. Current season export pace is the highest since 2015/16.
