Over 22 mln hectares of land to be cultivated in Kazakhstan
Kazakh farmers will plow over 22 million hectares of land this spring, local media reported.
Farmers in the main grain-growing regions plan to cultivate the land in the next two weeks if the weather conditions permit. Meanwhile, farmers in the southern regions have almost completed the farming in early April.
This year, the focus will be on increasing the areas of competitive, in-demand crops, such as oilseeds, cereals and legumes, and reducing the areas of wheat and water-bearing crops.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has asked local administrations to increase the transparency of land allocation procedures and strictly control the efficiency of using land resources.
"The land should belong to those who are willing to work on it," he said.
