Romania. Soil moisture content is at good and fair levels except for the southeast

Weather conditions. Air temperatures in Romania this past week were at long-term normal levels, ranging from +6..+20°C. The 0-10 cm soil layer warmed up to +10..+19°C in the daytime that was favorable for crop development.

Moisture supply. High precipitation rates were registered all over the country this past week (25-65 mm on the week). 80 mm was reported locally in the southwest, or a few times as much as a normal monthly amount. 

Precipitation received earlier in May moistens the top soil layer (0-20 cm) and thereby improves harvest outlook for spring crops. Soil moisture content is at good and fair levels everywhere except for the southeast.

Farmers report that precipitation deficits in March, April and the winter months have caused irreparable damage to crops in the northeast and southwest. This leads to a cut in crop forecasts for winter wheat and barley, UkrAgroConsult reports.
