Russia. Agrometeorological conditions were fair for fieldwork

Weather conditions. On October 1-5, the average air temperature in the European part of Russia was 2-5°C above normal (19 … 24°C); varying within 22…26°C in the Southern and North Caucasian federal districts (locally within 28…32°C). It became cooler on October 6-10, with freezes occurring everywhere (down to -4…-1°C) and temporary snow cover (1-5 cm) developing in some areas. The agrometeorological conditions were mainly fair for conducting fieldwork, being good and fair for growth and development of winter grains.

Moisture supply. Most areas in the European part of Russia received 20-40 mm of precipitation during the ten days, some areas got even 60-80 mm. locally it was dry (less than 5 mm of precipitation). In areas exposed to heavy downpours, fieldwork stopped because of too wet topsoil. Moisture supply of plants is good, though being below normal in single southern areas. In the Southern and North Caucasian federal districts, precipitation (20-35 mm, locally up to 50-60 mm and higher) replenished soil moisture, the agrometeorological conditions for emergence and initial growth and development of winter crops improved there, reports UkrAgroConsult.
