Russia. April’s weather conditions favored growing winter and spring crops

April’s weather was warm in most of the European part of Russia. On April 1-10, air temperature peaked at 10…15°C. It reached 18…20°C in the southern half of the Central district and southeasternmost parts of the Volga federal district on April 8-11. It became cold in the middle of the month (April 13-14), with temporary snow cover developing in some areas. So, the soil warming process slowed down. Daytime air temperature grew to 18…25°C on most days after April 20 – it was at 10…15°C only in northern parts of the territory.

Warm weather accelerated soil drying and warming. Winter crops are mostly in good and fair condition, locally poor because of adverse weather in the fall and winter. The weather conditions were favorable for spring fieldwork, reports UkrAgroConsult.

The Southern and North Caucasian federal districts were exposed to unstable weather in April. Cool periods (April 1–5 and April 17–23), when daytime air temperatures rose to just 5…10°C (with air and ground-surface temperatures falling to -3…-1°C at single nights), alternated with warm ones, when daytime air temperature was at 20…25°C.

The weather conditions were mostly favorable for growth and development of winter crops – they were well supplied with moisture. Winter crops are in good condition, being fair in part of the fields and poor just locally.
