The worst for Ukrainian margarine producers is over

In 2019, the Ukrainian margarine market featured upward trends, thereby confirming the optimistic scenario forecast by UkrAgroConsult:

– margarine production increased to 242.6 KMT (+10.5% on the year), hitting a five-year high;

– in 2016, margarine producers showed the worst result (184.1 KMT) since 2003. The reason was weakening demand from the domestic market and the disruption of trade links with Russia, which was the main importer of Ukrainian margarine products at the time;

– recent years have seen no steady growth in margarine output, but its amount recovers step-by-step;

– the sector has adapted and switched after the slump in 2015 and 2016.

Domestic demand for margarine products is fully met – they continue to be export-oriented articles: exports decreased substantially in 2015-2016, but growth in shipments of these commodities to foreign markets had been achieved by 2019.
