Ukraine. Low night temperatures were unfavorable for corn and sunflower to complete the growing season

Weather conditions this past week had a mixed effect on crops. The least favorable ones were seen in Cherkasy, Poltava, Sumy regions, which were exposed to temperature drops and soil moisture deficits on most days. Low air temperatures, particularly cold nights (6-9°С in the northern, eastern and central regions) were unfavorable for corn, sunflower and soybeans to complete the growing season.

Moisture supply. This past week, rainfall of various intensities (from weak and moderate to heavy downpours) occurred almost all over the country, accompanied by squalls, thunderstorms and hail in some areas. The exceptions were Cherkasy, Poltava, Sumy regions, where precipitation was insufficient for replenishing soil moisture in the 0-100 cm layer and the topsoil was fully dry. The moisture balance in plants was only maintained by abundant and lasting dews at night and morning hours. In the south, heavy rains drained away almost without replenishing soil moisture.

Crop condition is mostly good and fair, reports UkrAgroConsult.
