FLOUR EXPORTS. The pace of flour exports from Ukraine remains fast, reports UkrAgroConsult. Ukraine exported 353.7 KMT of flour over the first nine months of the current season – this is up 17% year-on-year. Noteworthy is that more flour was exported during the first nine months of MY 2017/18 than in the whole of MY 2015/16 and in the whole of each of the previous seasons from MY 1996/1997 to MY 2015/16, i.e. in 22 years.
41.3 KMT of Ukrainian flour was supplied to foreign markets in March 2018, or 28% more than in March 2017.
Along with growth in the volume of exports, the number of countries buying Ukrainian flour fell to 58 this marketing year from 87 in MY 2016/17. However, the commodity is shipped to countries located actually all around the world. At the same time, Asia and the Near East absorbed 64% of total exports.
China remains the largest end market for Ukrainian flour, and supplies to this country are on the rise. Ukraine shipped to China already 30% more than in the whole of last season. Thus, China’s share in Ukrainian flour exports reached a record 30%. A similar significant increase is observed in shipments to the European Union (+20% more than in the whole of MY 2016/17).
CORN STARCH EXPORTS. Corn starch exports from Ukraine grow steadily, UkrAgroConsult notes. Ukrainian exporters shipped abroad 38 KMT of corn starch during the first seven months of MY 2017/18 (September-March) that is up 24% on the year.
Indonesia is the top importer since a few years ago, with its 2017/18 export share equaling 37%. A surge is seen in corn starch purchases by EU countries. They imported already 2% more than in the whole of MY 2016/17.
Countries of the Near East stepped up imports considerably. On the other hand, Russia’s share in total exports dwindles noticeably: the country purchased just 1.5 KMT of corn starch during September-March this season against 7.6 KMT in the same period a year ago.
It is worth noting that corn starch production in Ukraine follows an upward trend.
