Ukraine decreases sales of grains and legumes in January-May 2020
Ukraine’s sales of grains and legumes decreased by 2.7% in January-May 2020 compared to the relevant period in 2019, according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.
In January-May 2020, agricultural enterprises and households sold 14.0 million tonnes of grains and legumes (down 2.7% from the same period of 2019). In particular, Ukraine sold 3.31 million tonnes of wheat (up 26.0%); 9.69 million tonnes of corn for grain (down 13.5%); 730.9 thousand tonnes of barley (up 202.7%); 30.2 thousand tonnes of rye (down 11.2%).
The sales of oilseed crops over the reporting period made up 4.38 million tonnes (down 4.5% from January-May 2019). In particular, about 1.05 million tonnes of soybeans were sold (down 19.4%), 11.5 thousand tonnes of rapeseeds (down 53.9%) and 3.30 million tonnes of sunflower seeds (up 2.0%).
In January-May 2020, agricultural enterprises sold 87.2 thousand tonnes of potatoes (up 2.6% from the relevant period in 2019); 125.1 thousand tonnes of vegetables (up 23.6%); 57.6 thousand tonnes of fruits and berries (down 41.3%).
As reported, in January-May 2019, the sales of grain and leguminous crops by Ukrainian agricultural enterprises made up 14.39 million tonnes (up 27.7% year-on-year); sales volume of oilseeds reached 4.58 million tonnes (up 24.5%), according to the data provided by the State Statistics Service.
