Ukraine increase sales of grain and leguminous crops in H1 2019

In the first half of 2019, the sales of grain and leguminous crops by Ukrainian agricultural enterprises grew by 26.5% compared with the same period last year, while sales volume of oilseeds rose by 30.5%, according to the data provided by the State Statistics Service.

In January-June 2019, Ukrainian enterprises sold 16.3 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops, an increase of 26.5% from the relevant period last year. Also, agricultural enterprises sold 12.3 million tonnes of corn for grain (an increase of 58.4%), 3.0 million tonnes of wheat (a decrease of 23.1%), 640.2 thousand tonnes of barley (a decrease of 8.4%), and 36.3 thousand tonnes of rye (a decrease of 51.4% less).

The sales of oilseed crops in the first half of 2019 compared to January-June 2018 grew by 30.5%, to 5.4 million tonnes. In particular, about 3.7 million tonnes of sunflower seeds were sold (an increase of 25.4%), 1.58 million tonnes of soybeans (an increase of 48.4%), 144.9 thousand tonnes of rape seeds (an increase of 0.5%).

Also, in the first half of 2019, the sales volume of fruit and berry crops rose by 56.9% compared with the same period in 2018 (to 106.4 thousand tonnes).

However, Ukraine’s sales of potatoes, vegetables and sugar decreased. In January-June 2019, agricultural enterprises sold 93.1 thousand tonnes of potatoes (a decrease of 17.8%), 130.2 thousand tonnes of vegetables (a decrease of 19.8%), and 370.5 thousand tonnes of sugar (a decrease of 9.1%).
