Russia. Early December weather was much warmer than usual

Weather conditions. Warmer-than-usual weather dominated the Northwestern, Central and Volga federal districts on December 1-10. Variable weather was seen in the Southern and North Caucasian federal districts, cool days alternated with warm ones. In farming areas of Western Siberia, the December 1-10 weather was mostly much warmer than usual.

Moisture supply. The Northwestern, Central and Volga federal districts received little precipitation (5-10 mm), though its rates were significant in most parts of the Northwestern district and in the north and east of the Volga district (15-25 mm). Towards December 10, snow cover in the fields was seen in the eastern half of the Northwestern district and most part of the Volga federal district.

Precipitation rates in the Southern and North Caucasian federal districts totaled 5-10 mm. In most parts of Western Siberia, the snow cover height in fields planted to winter crops varied from 13-15 cm to at least 20-40 cm. Precipitation of various intensities occurred in the form of rain and snow.

Crop condition. On December 1-10, winter grains in the Northwestern, Central and Volga federal districts were exposed to fair conditions for entering winter dormancy. No low air temperatures potentially dangerous to dormant crops were observed at the time. Winter grains in the Southern and North Caucasian federal districts stopped growing once air temperatures fell on November 21-30, and they did not resume growth on December 1-10. Winter grains in Western Siberia enjoyed fair wintering conditions, reports UkrAgroConsult.
