Russia. Favorable weather on May 1-10 facilitated spring fieldwork

Warm weather was observed in the Central and Volga federal districts on May 1-10. The average air temperature exceeded its normal level by at least 3-5°С. Spring fieldwork continued under favorable conditions: farmers planted cold-resistant spring grains, as well as late spring grains in the south. The average soil temperature at a 10-cm depth was at 15…20°С in the central, black earth and Middle Volga regions, being at 10…14°С in more northern areas, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Winter crops in the Central federal district are rated mainly good. In the Volga district, they are mostly fair, though being locally poor because of adverse fall and winter conditions and severe frost events in the beginning of the growing season.

The Southern and North-Caucasian federal districts were exposed to unstable weather on May 1-10. Planting of late heat-loving crops continued almost everywhere. On most days, the weather was good and fair for spring fieldwork. The agrometeorological conditions were favorable for growing grains. Moisture supply to crops was good, though being fair in some eastern areas and insufficient and poor in part of the fields.
