Russia. Hot weather accelerated growth of grain crops
Weather conditions. Hot weather dominated most parts of the Northwestern, Central and Volga federal districts on more than half the days in June. It accelerated growth of grain crops. Daytime air temperatures locally peaked at 36°C, even at 38°C in the Southern and North Caucasian districts.
Moisture supply available to grains crops was mostly fair, but insufficient and poor in the south (below 50 mm). This factor locally resulted in a larger portion of shriveled kernels.
Crop condition is mostly good and fair, locally poor in the south, with drought-damaged plants seen in part of the fields, reports UkrAgroConsult.
