Sergey Feofilov: Sunflower production will be record high again

The biggest competition among lately planted crops is competition between corn and sunflower – price spread is widening between them.
UkrAgroConsult expects sunseed plantings and production will be record high again. Sunflower oil prices are higher than any other vegetable oil values. Ukraine registered another peak of export shipments in April.
One of the new risks now is that European commission strengthened control over traces of some chemical agents in grain and vegetable oils from October 1.
At present, we register strong demand for soy both from crushers and exporters, while its stocks are at the lowest level. This promotes domestic price growth. Given this, farmers partly switched from corn to soybean.
Nevertheless, soybean exports will go down next season due to slightly lower production compared to the current season.
