Ukraine: chickpea crop may double

According to estimates made by the Ukrainian Pulses Association, Ukrainian farmers will harvest 55 KMT of chickpeas in 2018, or almost twice as much as last year. Roughly 30 KMT of chickpeas were produced in 2017.

For several years in a row now, chickpeas have been one of the most profitable pulse crops. Ukrainian growers export them to the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and even Europe, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Production of green lentils will also increase this year: it is planned to harvest 20 KMT against 12 KMT last year. A rise is expected in the crop of kidney beans: from 65 KMT in 2017 to 80 KMT in 2018. Red lentils and peas will remain at last year’s levels of 2 KMT and 1.09 MMT, respectively.
